Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which offers videos and blog posts that analyze the representation of women in pop cultural. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. In addition, she works to raise awareness of cyber-bullying targeting women, as well as other marginalized groups of society. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in Social and Political Thought at York University, is also a highly sought after public presenter. She has delivered speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements since the age of a child. In 2009, while she was still studying at the University of Toronto, Sarkeesian created the website Feminist Frequency. She had a plan to create a web series on gender representation in video games. However, she found herself in the middle of a harassment online campaign. However, the harassment didn't discourage her. This only helped her in her role as a journalist who is feminist. For the many achievements she's made for feminist movements, she has been an award winner.
