After establishing her career as an actress, she was an infant model. She won the Theatre World Award as "one of the most promising performers in 1956-57" for her performance in The Potting Shed. Lynley began her career in film in the year 1958, with her debut in the Disney film The Light in the Forest. It was followed by Holiday for Lovers (1959) and Blue Denim (1959). The film was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as Most Promising Female Newcomer - Female. She was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award again for Most Promising Youngcomer Female a year later for Blue Denim.
